You learn new things every day as a living being.
When I got married, I was always scared each time I remember am definitely going to be a Mom. I had so many questions flying through my brain…can I cope? How will I know the right thing to do?
Not that getting married guarantees being a mom. To have a very fulfilling marriage in the society where I live, having children is a very essential part… May God answer the prayers of all trying to conceive couples and bless them with children.. Amen.
Eventually my marriage was blessed with a baby girl.
Our joy knew no bounds, we were so excited that we spent every moment with her.
But as a mother, I was doing all within my power not to fail in delivering my motherly duties.
Taking care of our baby girl’s diaper area was one of my challenges…
Oops I never knew baby girls have discharges.
When you discover your new born baby girl is having discharges, it might be milky or even reddish in colour.
Just wipe it out, I was told it’s normal and due to hormonal changes and transit from the womb to earth life.
So worry not, they are babies too.
Don’t wash the baby’s vagina with soap.
Gosh yes she’s a lady you know, despite she’s little and tender.
Use wash cloth and water to thoroughly wash and clean her vagina.
Using soap isn’t good for that area of the body and will affect the pH .
The vagina is self cleansing part of the body.
Ensure your clean her very well…like serious.
If she’s not thoroughly cleaned and for instance you allow poo enter her vagina, you might be brooding infections for her. Wiping from front to back greatly minimizes the chances of these infections.
So as a mother ensure your baby’s diaper area is thoroughly cleaned. No long stories. If as a working mother you may not be always around, ensure you show your nanny or help how to do this properly so that you are rest assured that your baby is being properly cared for.
If your baby is big and fat, ensure you carefully clean all folds around her diaper area and her entire body.
After cleaning, I use petroleum jelly to lubricate the baby’s diaper area.
This helps prevent rashes. Using any kind of powder doesn’t help because it doesn’t give a protective layer on the skin , rather may invite rashes especially in hot weather.
Cleanliness is next to godliness, my joy knew no bounds, I didn’t fail as a mother in caring for my baby’s diaper area.
If you haven’t taken these precautions, you haven’t failed either. Learning is a continuous process. I’m sure you’ve learnt something new from my experience.
